Industry: Oil and Gas
One of our international oil and gas exploration and production company clients is headquartered in Texas with operations in the United States, the Middle East and Latin America. Based on equity market capitalization, they are one of the largest oil and gas companies in the United States. They are focused on social responsibility worldwide, safeguarding the environment and protecting the safety and health of their employees, as well as the neighboring communities in which they work.
According to our client’s Senior IT Consultant, they were seeking a new solution to replace Lotus Notes as a supported platform within the enterprise. Lotus Notes, unable to provide robust audit-ready infrastructure change tracking, did not meet the company’s regulatory requirement needs.

Evaluated against other industry-leading tools, ChangeGear was selected by them for their change control documentation and configuration item tracking for all SOX related applications.
Our client explains how ChangeGear has helped them with their change and configuration management challenges:
“We’ve had it installed for two and a half years, replacing an internal Lotus Notes application. It was originally brought in for change control, but once implemented we looked into the configuration management module and saw that it could help us with some of our audit difficulties with Sarbanes-Oxley applications. We put together the customizations to meet our regulatory requirements and it is working really well.”
Applications like ChangeGear, that are both efficient and easy-to-implement, play a crucial part in IT strategy and operations. Sarbanes-Oxley related applications must be able to provide the visibility needed to keep IT organizations covered in terms of regulatory auditing and compliance. From an IT perspective, ChangeGear has fulfilled these needs and has proved a valuable asset to our client’s operational structure.
“The built in ITIL workflows are valuable. It’s a nice part of the product and although it was not critical to our selection or the deployment, ITIL was convenient to have it built directly into the product. I was not heavily involved when the solution decisions were being made, but I’m sure ChangeGear was the pick of the litter,” he says.
They are currently using Change Management for process controls and the CMDB in order to gain a complete view into the company’s IT infrastructure. They also have future plans which include Incident Management.
Currently, the Help Desk is an outsourced function but according to our client, there are plans to bring it back in-house using ChangeGear. “We have been very pleased not only with the ChangeGear product but with the support we get from the Services Team,” he concludes.
