Informatica Corporation is "the data integration company" that helps organizations gain greater value from their information assets by providing data integration software and services to solve the problem of data fragmentation across disparate systems. Informatica also helps companies and government organizations of all sizes realize the full business potential of their enterprise data. The company, headquartered in Redwood City, California, has offices in 13 countries, and currently employs more than 1,100 individuals.

The Challenge

Change management at Informatica Corporation included a variety of formats ranging from verbal agreements and handshakes to emails and numerous paper forms, with each department independently adopting its own method. As a result, departments were unaware of what other departments were doing. This fragmented approach to change management created operational and compliance problems and resulted in costly downtime to trace the sources and types of these problems.

The SunView Software Solution

After evaluating several products and companies, Informatica chose SunView, believing it has the right approach to change management systems, and ChangeGear, SunView's flagship product, to best consolidate and coordinate the company's diverse change management processes. With minor customization, ChangeGear proved to be efficient, cost-effective, and is today Informatica's primary system for compliance in change management. Larger companies with more costly products were investigated, but were found not to have a product that would meet the specific needs of Informatica in the most cost-effective way.

The Results

Today, some 60 Informatica IT staff currently use SunView's change management system. As system and application changes are needed, change requirements are defined upfront and they are logged and tracked using ChangeGear. As change requests go through the change lifecycle, ChangeGear automatically notifies the appropriate departments via email - giving advanced warnings about impending change and avoiding miscommunication that could result in system downtime.
